The National Tiger Conservation Authority (NTCA) has recognized Bhoramdeo Wildlife Sanctuary in the state of Chhattisgarh as a Tiger Reserve post five years of a proposal sent by the sanctuary’s officers. The proposal was sent to NTCA after the officers noticed tiger movement from Kanha National Park in Madhya Pradesh to Bhoramdeo. According to the reserve’s officials, a tigress was spotted moving with three cubs and a tiger five years ago in the sanctuary and two tigers , a tigress and cubs had been spotted in the camera trap since March this year, which indicate a prospect of more tiger breeding in the region.
It will take around six months for Bhoramdeo Wildlife Sanctuary to convert to a Tiger Reserve, where a DFO level Forest Officer along with a well trained staff including a veterinary doctor will be deployed.During these six months, Barasingha (swamp deer) will also be translocated from Kanha National Park, MP to the reserve as there is conducive atmosphere for this species of animal.
Bhoramdeo is spread in an area of 351.25 sq kms, out of which 160 sq km is the core area and 152 sq km is the buffer zone. The reserve is situated in between Kanha National Tiger Reserve and Achanakmar Tiger Reserve, and has provided evidences of existence of several of wild animals and birds since three years of its formation.
