Uretroscopic Removal of Stone (Bladder)

Ureteroscopic Removal of Stone from the bladder is a non-invasive procedure to remove stones that are stuck in the ureter and are closer to the bladder than the kidney. Nowadays, this technique is even used for small stones in or near the kidney.

Limitations of ureteroscopic removal of stone are a few. One of the major limitations is that the procedure cannot be conducted if you have had surgery in the abdomen or pelvis, an injury to the ureter, or an enlarged prostate. In normal conditions, it works for most people.

Mostly ureteroscopic removal procedures are done under a general anaesthesia. Your surgeon will place the cystoscope into your urethra and move it into the bladder. Then the stone will be removed with a small basket at the end of a wire through the ureteroscope or by extending a fiber optic loop that emits a laser beam to break the stone into small pieces. An ureteroscopic stent will be placed to keep the ureter open for drainage.

You will need an overnight stay in the hospital and complete recovery after ureteroscopic stone removal will take a week.
Complications associated with ureteroscopic removal of stone are injury to the ureter, bleeding, urinary tract infections and abdominal pain.
