Uretric reimplantation:

Ureteric reimplantation is a surgical procedure, where the original ureter is reimplanted in the bladder wall. The goal is to make a new position in which the end of the ureter is surrounded by bladder muscle to prevent urine from refluxing towards the bladder.

Ureteric reimplantation in adults is primarily used for disease or trauma involving the lower third portion of the ureter that results in obstruction or fistula.

Indication for ureteral reimplantation surgery includes the presence of a condition called Vesicoureteral Reflux (VUR). In this condition, the connection where one or both of your child’s ureters attach to the bladder is not completely developed, so this can cause urine to flow from the bladder back up into the kidney.

Some antibiotics and general anaesthesia will be given to your child before the ureteral reimplantation procedure. The surgeon will make an incision in the lower abdomen. The ending of the ureter and some muscles are detached from the bladder.

Then a tunnel will be created for the ureter to be placed inside. Now the ureter is moved to the new site in the bladder and inserted into the tunnel.

Complications of ureteral reimplantation may include infection, bleeding, strictures of the ureters, and damage to surrounding organs.
