Lap pyeloplasty:

Lap pyeloplasty is a minimally invasive procedure used to perform reconstructive surgery of a narrowing or scarring where the tube that drains urine from the kidney to the bladder (ureter) attaches to the kidney. The goal of the surgery is to achieve the same results as would be obtained by a conventional surgery, but with small incisions.

The lap pyeloplasty indications can be the abnormality called ureteropelvic junction obstruction that results in poor and sluggish drainage of urine from the kidney. It may create abdominal and flank pain, infection, stones, high blood pressure and deterioration of kidney function.

The lap pyeloplasty procedure will start with giving you a general anaesthesia. A telescope and a stent are placed through the urethra into the bladder. Next, 3 or 4 small incisions are made just below the ribs on the side of the problem. Afterwards, a new joint between the kidney and ureter is constructed by exterminating the narrow part of the junction between the renal pelvis and the ureter.

The complication of lap pyeloplasty may include damage to nearby structures, infection, and bleeding. You will need 2 to 4 days of hospital stay and the full recovery time will take about 2 to 4 weeks.
