Green light laser prostratrectomy:

Green light laser prostatectomy is an alternative method used for the treatment of benign prostatic hyperplasia (BPH), which is an enlargement of the prostate gland resulting in urethral restriction. In this procedure, a powerful green laser is used to vaporise the prostate to create an open channel. Green light laser prostatectomy is a better option than TURP because the laser also vaporises blood vessels so there is usually little or no bleeding.

The indications for green light laser prostatectomy procedure include men who have been in acute retention, prostate volume greater than 60cc or who need laboratory analysis of the prostate chippings.

Green light laser prostatectomy procedure is usually performed under a general anaesthesia. Your surgeon will insert a laser probe and the overgrown tissue is vaporised by the green light laser energy.

It is normal to have traces of blood in the urine after this green light laser prostatectomy during recovery time, which can take up to 1 or 2 weeks.

Complications of green light laser prostatectomy may include urine infections, bleeding, erectile dysfunction, urethral stricture, incontinence and injury in the ureter or bladder.
