Endopyelotomy:

Endopyelotomy is a surgical procedure used for treatment of pelviureteric junction obstruction. This condition is caused by the narrowing of the renal pelvis of the kidney where urine collects before being carried to the bladder by the ureters. The goal of the endopyelotomy procedure is to widen the narrowed area, by removing the tissue that is causing an obstruction.

As a part of the endopyelotomy preparation, you will be asked not to eat anything six hours prior the surgery.
There are two types of endopyelotomy methods. First is antegrade approach where your kidney is accessed through a small incision in the skin and the second is a retrograde approach where a tiny telescope is passed through your urethra and then up to the kidney.

Endopyelotomy procedure is generally performed under a general anaesthesia. Your doctor will make a small cut in the narrowed junction between your kidney and ureter. The procedure is mostly done with a laser and a balloon is used to stretch the area. Then a ureteric stent will be placed to help with the healing. This stent will stay in for approximately four to six weeks and will be removed under a local anaesthetic.

Endopyelotomy complications include bleeding, infections and in rare case failure of the procedure.
