Total Hip Replacement U/L
In case of unilateral total hip replacement, artificial parts are used in place of diseased hip joint parts of just one hip. This type of treatment is required at the last stage of degenerative hip disease. It should be remembered that the hip joint is made of a socket or ball and each surface is covered by a cartilage. Several conditions cause the cartilage to degenerate that leads to loss of hip joint, stiffness and pain.
During the surgery, the surgeons remove the balls or femoral head at the time of surgery. Remember, with total hip replacement, infections may occur. If the infection grows complex, then this may require further surgery to remove the prosthetic components.
There may be a blood clot in the veins of the pelvis. Once the surgery is done, blood thinning medicine is required. It should be known that the new hip will move as easily as any normal joint after the surgery. Therefore, there are more chances of the joint to get dislocated. Patients should follow a few things post surgery, which involve not sitting too low and crossing leg when sitting.
