Shoulder Arthroscopy
Shoulder arthroscopy is conducted by inserting an arthroscope through an incision that has a camera fitted to it. This camera helps take pictures of the inside of the joint and guide the doctor to repair any damaged tissues there.
The shoulder joint is supported by a rotator cuff that involves a group of tendons and muscles. These tendons and muscles support the arm and the shoulder joint and allow the shoulder to move in different directions. There is a possibility for the tendons to tear when injured or overused, warranting a need for shoulder arthroscopy.
Shoulder arthroscopy procedure is conducted under general anaesthesia. During the procedure, the surgeon inserts an arthroscope, one end of which is connected to a video monitor. The camera fitted to the arthroscope helps inspect all the tissues in the shoulder and joint area. These types of tissues include ligaments, bones, tendons and cartilage. During the procedure, the surgeon makes one to three incisions for inserting the instrument. Then, any tear in the cartilage and muscle is fixed. If there is any damaged tissue then that is removed.
