Knee Arthroscopy
Knee arthroscopy is defined as a surgical procedure which is used to diagnose problem in the knee joint and treat the same. During the knee arthroscopy procedure, the surgeon creates a small cut and inserts an arthroscope with an attached small camera that helps to view the knee area.
The procedure helps doctors to view the inside of the joint on a computer screen. Therefore, if there is any problem in the knee, the surgeons can correct it by viewing the monitor and with the hep of small instruments that are inserted through an incision.
Knee arthroscopy surgery is required for the treatment of posterior cruciate ligaments or torn anterior, torn meniscus, dislocated patella, torn cartilage left loose in the joint, removal of Baker’s cyst, fractures in knee bones and swollen synovium. There can be several knee joint problems that are best treated with the arthroscopy procedure.
Before the surgery, the patient is required to talk to the doctor about any kind of medication he or she is taking. The patient may have to stop taking other medications and also stop having food 6-12 hours before the surgery. In some cases, pain medications are prescribed. During the knee arthroscope procedure, the doctor numbs the knee and also numbs the region from waist down and put the patient completely to sleep.
