Carpal Tunnel release procedure is conducted by doctors to ensure relief to patients suffering from carpal tunnel syndrome. When the transverse carpal tunnel exerts pressure on the median nerves, it is cut to release the pressure and relieve the symptoms.

During the procedure, a small cut is made at the base of the palm to allow doctors to have better view of the transverse carpal ligament. Once the ligament is cut, the open wound is stitched close. As for the gap that stays in the area where the ligament was cut, it automatically fills up with the scar tissues.

Local anaesthesia is administered during the Carpal Tunnel release surgery. Typically, the patient is released within a few hours after the surgery is done. Either the patient is released on the same day, or he or she is released on the next day. Doctors usually suggest avoidance of heavy use of hands. Giving rest to the hands for sometime will help with the healing process of the scar.
