Hair Transplant
Hair transplantation is a surgical procedure in which hair follicles are retrieved and transplanted on the region of baldness. This procedure is not only used to treat scalp baldness, but also loss of hair from the eyelashes, eyebrows, chest, beard and pubic areas.
Hair transplantation for male pattern baldness is a common procedure. However, the same procedure is now used for the treatment of female baldness as well.
It is a minimally invasive procedure used to surgically place grafts of skin that contain healthy hair follicles to the targeted location. This technique is totally different from skin grafting, which is a procedure used to transplant graft containing hair follicles along with dermis and epidermis.
After hair transplant, patients may suffer from “shock loss,” in which all of the transplanted hair fall off and patches of baldness appears. However, this is only temporary and new hair grow within a few days. Some patients may require a subsequent hair transplant surgery if the side effect is not controlled.
