Squint

Squint, also known as strabismus, is a condition of the eye that makes the two eyeballs turn in different direction (up/down or in/out). As a result, the eyes are not able to work or move together properly.

There are a number of reasons that can make people squint. An imbalance in how the muscles control the movement of the eye, fault in focusing and transmission of incorrect nerve signals to the eye are some of the common reasons.

Also known as cross eyes, squint can occur because of a family history of the condition, presence of a refractive error or certain medical conditions such as Down’s syndrome and an impact from an injury on the head.

Squint also refers to the act of looking at something with partially closed eyes. This is done in an attempt to see something clearly, located at a distance or in the presence of bright sunlight.

Strabismus treatment typically involves the use of eye glasses or vision therapy. In some cases, eye muscle surgery is recommended for squint eye treatment. The key to squint treatment is early detection. Typically, excellent correction results are achieved in cases strabismus is detected early in life.
