Ptosis

Ptosis refers to droopy eyelid that may occur because of the certain medical disorders, trauma or aging. Ptosis can affect both the eyes or a single eye. It may affect an individual permanently, or may come and go automatically.

Droopy eyelids can sometimes interfere with vision by either reducing or completely blocking it. In such cases, an eyelid surgery is recommended if the droopiness does not get resolved naturally.

Droopy eyelid treatment is not required in cases such as occurring because of aging or if someone is born with the condition, which is otherwise not harmful to health. Such individuals can still opt to go for a plastic surgery in order to eliminate the droopiness and improve their looks.

Droopy eyelid surgery is recommended for people whose eyelids block or interfere with their vision. It is the most preferred type of droopy eyelid treatment for people whose condition is permanent. In temporary cases, glasses that hold the eyelid up are recommended.

During Ptosis surgery, the eyelid is lifted up to a targeted location and the levator muscle is tightened. The muscles of the forehead are also sometimes used to lift up the eyelids. In case an underlying condition is leading to droopy eyelids, the patient is treated for it first.
