Stereotactic Radio Therapy (SRT)

Stereotactic radio therapy is a type of non-surgical radiation therapy used to treat small tumours and functional abnormalities of the tumours of the brain. The procedure helps deliver precisely-targeted radiation in fewer doses of treatment, in contrast to traditional radiations.

Stereotactic radiotherapy has many side effects that include fatigue, swelling of the brain, headaches, difficulty in swallowing, fatigue, skin problems and hair loss.

Stereotactic radiosurgery is a treatment procedure, which is very much similar to the central nervous system (CNS) stereotactic radiosurgery. This means this type of treatment deals with tumour that are located outside of the CNS.

Stereotactic radiation therapy for the body means that there are specially designed coordinated systems used for the same. This type of stereotactic radiation therapy works for all types of radiation treatment. It actually does not remove the lesion or tumour, but distorts the DNA of the cancerous cell.

The therapy aims at killing the cancer cells present in the tumour. Radiation beams are directed at the tumour from various directions in the head. It should be kept in mind that the head should remain in the same position every time the therapy is administered.
