Chemotherapy

Chemotherapy involves the use of drugs that are administered in patients to treat cancer. Therefore, the procedure of chemotherapy is aimed towards treating cancer. Chemo works positively throughout the body by killing cancerous cells that are spread to other parts of the body far away from the primary tumour.

Chemotherapy is a viable cancer treatment, which is most often recommended by doctors. Oncologists try and understand the objective of the treatment while making treatment decisions. Chemotherapy is performed to cure or control cancer or for the purpose of palliation.

Doctors use chemotherapy with a curative intent for patients. Not that, chemotherapy helps cure cancer instantly. It may take several years before one can know if the patient has been cured of the disease absolutely.

The purpose of chemo is to shrink the tumours and prevent them from spreading further. Cancer doesn’t always leave a patient’s body, since there are chances of coming back. Sometimes, chemotherapy is given for cancer cure as palliative chemotherapy. When cancer has reached an advanced stage, then palliative chemotherapy is given to shrink the tumour to help the patient get ease from pain.
