Chronic sub-dual haematoma
Chronic subdural haematoma is described as a type of a brain disorder wherein there is a leakage of blood in the brain. When there is collection of blood between the outer membrane and the inner membrane that covers the brain due to head injury, the condition is described as chronic subdural haematoma. Subdural refers to dura or the dura mater which covers the outer membrane.
Haematoma refers to a collection of blood. The causes of chronic sub-dural haematoma include an injury to the head, which may be as little as a minor bump or a serious injury to your head. What happens is that the blood slowly passes and eventually collects and presses against the brain tissues that become inflamed. Now, the growing pressure on the brain may lead to gradual loss of brain function.
Individuals who are at a risk of chronic sub-dual haematoma are the elderly and the young, chronic users of blood thinner medicines and aspirin, alcoholics. Besides, people who suffer from serious brain injury are also susceptible to chronic sub-dual haematoma.
