Brain Tumour Excision (Pitutory Tumour)
Pituitary tumour is the tumour of the pituitary gland, which helps regulate the production of the pituitary hormones in the human body. The biggest symptom of pituitary tumour is production of excessive hormones. Among other symptoms, one of the most common one is pressing of the optic nerve, resulting in vision problem.
MRI and CT scan are conducted to find pituitary tumour. Brain tumour excision is done through the person’s nose and there is no need of opening the skull. Post surgery, radiation therapy may be required.
Pituitary tumour surgery is performed through the sphenoid sinus, which is a hollow space right behind the skull below the brain. The posterior portion of the sinus also covers the pituitary gland.
Tumours that are not cancerous are known as benign pituitary adenomas. Such tumours tend to grow very slowly and do not spread to other parts of the body from the pituitary glands. The right treatment in the right time help prevent these tumours from spreading further.
