Lap Inguinal Hernioplasty Unilateral

The unilateral lap inguinal hernioplasty procedure is as same as the bilateral lap inguinal hernioplasty, with a difference that it is conducted for repair of inguinal hernia on just one side. A laparoscopic head is used in the procedure to see the image of the organs inside the abdomen and instruments inserted through other small incisions is used to repair the hernia. The case of recurrent unilateral hernia is also often easier to treat using laparoscopic techniques.

In case of unilateral hernia, laparoscopic inguinal hernioplasty is considered the best method of surgery. It is a less painful procedure and needs less recovery time. The success rate of lap inguinal hernioplasty in case of unilateral hernia is significantly better than open repair surgery.

Lap inguinal hernioplasty complications are less, but there are still some risks such as:

– Complications related to general anaesthesia

– Pain in the testicles

– Damage to the cord that carries sperm from the testicles to the penis

– Seromas or hematomas in the scrotum or in the abdominal muscles

– Bladder injury

– Infection from the mesh or stitches

– Recurrence of the hernia (usually related to the mesh applied during surgery)

The patients are typically able to return home on the same day or next, but full recovery after inguinal hernioplasty may take 2 to 4 weeks.
