Lap Inguinal Hernioplasty Bilateral

Lap inguinal hernioplasty for bilateral hernia repair is similar to other laparoscopic procedures. Laparoscopic inguinal hernioplasty is able to give excellent results as compared to those of an open hernioplasty.

General anaesthesia is given before the lap inguinal hernioplasty procedure to the patient. During the procedure, small incisions are made in the abdomen and a laparoscope is inserted through the cut made.

The instruments inserted through other incisions are used to repair the hernia. Finally, a mesh is placed over the defect to reinforce the belly wall. In case hernia is present on both the sides, the surgeon can repair both the sides during the same operation. This can be performed by inserting the laparoscope into the side, that is being operated and looking at the opposite side.

The lap inguinal hernioplasty indications are the pain or other symptoms and for hernias that are incarcerated or strangulated. The procedure is highly recommended for inguinal hernias in children. Several studies have determined that the success rate of laparoscopic inguinal hernioplasty is better than the open surgery. The recurrence rates may decline to 5 percent or lower with laparoscopic repair, compared to the rates as high as 20 percent for open repair surgery.
