TIPSS grade 2

First thing to be noted about TIPSS Grade 2 is that it is not a surgical procedure, but it involves the use of X-ray by radiologists. Transjugular intrahepatic portosystemic shunt helps to establish connection between two blood vessels in your liver. Patients suffering from severe liver problems may need to undergo TIPSS Grade 2 procedure to place a TIPS shunt or TIPS stent.

During TIPSS procedure, a catheter is inserted through the patient’s skin into the vein in the neck. There is a tiny balloon at the end of the catheter. By looking at the X-ray machine, the doctor inserts the catheter in the liver. Dye is inserted in it to get a clearer picture.

The balloon is inflated and the stent at the end of the catheter eventually connects the portal vein to the hepatic vein. As the vein stays inflated, the catheter is removed. The new pathway helps ease blood flow in the veins.

TIPSS Grade 2 symptoms include hypertension in patients arising from liver problems. Such problems may arise due to alcohol use, blood clot formation in vessels in the liver, iron accumulation in liver and Hepatitis C or Hepatisis B.
