Renal Angioplasty

When complications arise in the blood vessels that run through your kidney, renal angioplasty is a viable way to get a glimpse of what is wrong in the vessels. There can be kidney blockage or narrowing of the vessels or ballooning of blood vessels and in such cases, the clear image of the problem can be obtained via renal angiogram and accordingly renal stenting can be conducted to clear the vessel.

Kidney is one of the major organs in the body that plays an important function of filtering waste out of blood. People suffering from kidney diseases often suffer high blood pressure that may lead to stroke or heart attack. Other renal failure symptoms include chronic diseases in kidney, loss of kidney function and fluid retention.

You may need a renal angiogram to diagnose tumors, complications associated with kidney transplant and bleeding. During renal angiogram procedure, an intravenous line is created in the arm. A needle is inserted in the groin under the influence of local anesthesia. Then a catheter is inserted into the artery and the radiologist will inject contrast dye. This will help the radiologist take X-ray pictures of your kidney for proper diagnosis and treatment. Based on the results, a stent in kidney or ureteral stent may be placed to clear the blockage.
