Renal angiography, also known as renal X-ray or renal arteriogram, uses X-ray beams that are passed over the abdomen to generate images of the bladder, uterus and kidneys. KUB radiography is the initial step used for diagnosing issues in the urinary system and is also performed in combination with intravenous pyelography.

Precisely, renal angiography is described as imaging of blood vessels using X-ray dye or contrast media. X-ray dye is injected into the blood stream through the vessels and arteries. The dye is then seen on screen with the help of X-ray, a technique which is also known as fluoroscopy.

The study of kidneys and blood vessels in the kidney are best described and understood with the help of renal angiography. The risks of renal angiography include bruising at the spot where the catheter has been inserted, excruciating pain in the puncture site and damage to arterial wall. It is best used for the treatment of kidney diseases.
