Liberation Treatment (no stent)

Liberation treatment is aimed at the treatment of multiple sclerosis. The process was first conceptualized by an Italian vascular surgeon named Paulo Zamboni. For the same reason, it is also known as Zamboni procedure. After a series of experiments, he claimed that there is a connection between the constricted veins and the multiple sclerosis of the neck. He suggested inserting small balloons inside the veins to inflate them to clear any blockage in the veins.

Liberation treatment can be with stents or without stents. The number of stents required during the liberation therapy procedure depends upon the number and the extent of blockages in the veins. The idea is to eradicate blockages and minimize the appearance of lesions.

Chronic cerebrospinal venous insufficiency (CCSVI) syndrome is actually defined as the compromised blood flow in the veins, resulting in drainage of the central nervous system. The diagnosis for liberation treatment include reflux in internal vertebral veins, reflux of deep cerebral veins, reverted postural control of the primary cerebral venous outflow pathways, absence of blood flow in vertebral veins and so on.
