Cerebral Aneurysm Coil Embolisation

Coiling embolisation aids to prevent blood flow into the aneurysm. Aneurysm is a weakened area situated on the wall of the artery, but if the brain aneurysm ruptures, then it can cause fatal brain damage and bleeding.

Cerebral aneurysm coil embolisation is necessary to treat cerebral aneurysm, which can prove fatal if not treated immediately. Sometimes, the brain aneurysm embolization procedure is required to repair ruptured aneurysm.

There are several risks associated with cerebral aneurysm coil embolisation. Some of the complications include bleeding, blood clotting, loss of consciousness, stroke, paralysis of one portion of the body, rupture of aneurysm, infection and swelling due to accumulation of blood.

During brain aneurysm coiling, a small incision is created on the skin to open the artery in the groin. A catheter is inserted through the groin and is passed through blood vessels to the brain. The job of the physician, at this point, is to manipulate the coil as it is in the aneurysm. Recovery after brain aneurysm surgery time may be long, depending upon the condition of the patient.
