Carotid Stenting Grade 3

Patients suffering from severe carotid artery stenosis are required to undergo carotid stenting Grade 3 procedure, which involves insertion of a stent through the lumen present in the narrowed carotid artery. Referred to as ‘Endovascular Surgery’, carotid artery stenting is conducted with a sole aim to prevent strokes by ballooning very thin carotid artery.

Carotid artery stent surgery, however, has a few side effects that should not be overlooked. Some of the rare side effects of carotid stenting include bleeding, allergic reaction to dyes or medications erupting from the process, blood clotting, blockage of artery, breathing problems in case of stent placed in the bronchi, heart attack and kidney stones.

During carotid artery surgery, the surgeon inserts a metallic-mesh thin tube called stent into the the carotid artery. This is done to increase the flow of blood to the areas chocked by plague. Hence, it helps restore smooth blood flow.

Even though angioplasty stenting is an effective procedure, it is quite not popular among hospitals around the globe. This is because it a relatively new procedure used for the treatment of carotid artery stenosis. However, if administered properly, the treatment can result in less number of complications related to the heart.
