IVF with Laser Assisted Hatching
Laser assisted hatching is a common technique used during a typical IVF cycle. This procedure is conducted to improve the chances of conception and to make sure that the sperm is able to fertilize the egg under laboratory conditions.
During normal fertilization, a sperm is able to break through the zone pellucida layer of the egg, which is highly protective in nature. Only a single sperm is able to make this happen and the fertilization follows.
Laser hatching in IVF is used to create a hole in zona pellucida of the egg before mixing it with the sperms of fertilization. This, in turn, improves the chances of conception as the sperm now has to do less work to be able to push itself through the external wall of the egg.
IVF assisted hatching is done with the help of a beam of laser. It created a hole in the wall of the zone, which is then used by the sperm to enter the egg. Several years back, acidified tyrode’s solution was used to create the hole instead of laser light.
