IVF with Egg Donation

In vitro fertilization (IVF) is a common infertility treatment used to help childless couples conceive a baby. A couple may be rendered infertile because of several reasons, which pertains to both male and female infertility.

During a typical IVF cycle, several eggs are made to fertilize with sperms under laboratory conditions. The eggs that have successfully fertilized are cultured further and the healthiest of them all is transferred to the womb of the mother.

For IVF treatment, the sperms may come from the father or a suitable donor. Similarly, the egg may also come from the mother or a female donor.

IVF with egg donor follows the same procedure as IVF with egg retrieved from mother’s ovary. The donor is given certain medications to stimulate the development of multiple eggs in the ovaries. Next, the healthy eggs are retrieved from the body of the donor during a short outpatient procedure.

The eggs retrieved are mixed with sperms in a petridish and made to fertilize. The fertilized zygote is transferred into the womb of the mother and not the egg donor. IVF with egg donation abroad is possible and a common procedure.
