IVF / ICSI + Donor sperms

In vitro fertilization (IVF) is sometimes accompanied by intracytoplasmic sperm injection (ICSI). While the former deals with the fertilization of an egg and a sperm in laboratory injection, the latter refers to the injection of a viable sperm directly into the egg for fertilization.

ICSI procedure can be performed with the help of the sperms retrieved from the infertile male partner or from a donor male. ICSI with donor sperms is done by injecting a single donor sperm into an egg for fertilization.

The IVF comes into play. As a part of the IVF treatment, the fertilized egg is cultured and raised to reach the blastocyst stage. At this stage, it is transferred into the womb of the mother for further development. IVF is considered successful when the blastocyst is able to attach itself to the uterine wall and its development progresses therein.

Donor sperms used for this procedure are retrieved from a suitable male donor after a series of compatibility and other tests. This is done keeping the couple trying to conceive in full faith and knowledge.
