Laparoscopic Abdominal Hysterectomy

A laparoscopic abdominal hysterectomy is a minimally invasive procedure used to remove the uterus. Even though the use of laparoscope is common in several other medical procedures, such as removal of gall bladder and appendix, the device has become quite acceptable in the field of gynaecology only in the recent years.

Abdominal hysterectomy can be done as an open surgery or with the help of a laparoscope. In the latter, a small incision is made into the navel of the patient through which a tiny camera and a set of surgical tools are inserted. The surgeon guides the laparoscope into the uterus of the patient and tools are controlled to detach the womb from the surrounding tissues.

Laparoscopic abdominal hysterectomy recovery time differs from patient to patient, but a majority of them are able to recover within two weeks of the procedure. As a part of the hysteroscopy side effects, there are rare chances that any near-by organs may be injured during the procedure, thus resulting in internal bleeding or infection. But the chances of this happening is really very rare.
