Tonsillectomy
Tonsillectomy is a tonsil removal procedure, which is usually conducted to treat enlarged tonsils. It should, however, not be confused with recurrent or chronic tonsils. Plasma rays are used to remove the damaged tonsils, while the patient is under the influence of general anaesthesia.
Tonsillectomy in adults is quite common and the surgical process lasts between 30 and 45 minutes. Adult tonsillectomy procedure includes complete elimination of the tonsils. Tonsils are two small glands located on either side of the throat. If the tonsils become infected, then tonsil removal is warranted in both adults and children.
The signs or indications oftonsillectomy in adults are pain on the outside of the throat, a hoarse voice, difficulty or pain in swallowing, swollen or enlarged lymph nodes, yellow or white coating on tonsils and recurring or severe sore throat.
Tonsillectomy recovery time lasts between 7 and 10 days. Often, throat and ear pain may result after tonsillectomy, but it doesn’t mean that something is wrong with your internal ears.
