JoshimathJoshimath

Situated on the slopes above the confluence of Alaknanda and Dhauliganga rivers is the winter home of the lord of Badrinath, Joshimath has many important temples including the temple of Ugra Narsimha devoted to the half-lion half-man incarnation of Lord Vishnu.

The name Joshimath has been derived from "Jyotirmath", Adi Guru Shankaracharya attained enlightenment in the 18th century while meditating under a tree and established a Math (hermitage centre) here.

The temples of Narsingh & Nav Durga are located here.

Orchards of peaches, apples, apricots and many citrus fruits are of scenic interest.

Owing to many tourist bungalows, hotels & tourist lodges, one can easily find accommodation.
