In the month of July or August, the Lamayuru monastery of Ladakh hosts the vibrant Yuru Kabgyat festival for two days. Somewhere like other festivals of Ladakh, during Yuru Kabgyat a special mask dance is performed with all the prayers and rituals for the world peace. Going by the holy scripts, the mask dance dates back to 8th century and is performed to protect the people from natural calamities, and epidemics. Lamas dance in a circle formation on the beats of the drum beats, long pipes, and cymbals. The festival is of cultural importance not only in India but also people from China, Japan and Bhutan participate in it.
