Facial Fat Transfer in India

Facial fat transfers often known as facial fat grafting is a procedure that involves transfer of fat to the face from another part of the body. Common treatment areas include the nasolabial folds (between the nose and the lips), marionette lines (between the lips and chin), flattened cheeks, sagging jaws, and hollows under the eyes.

Facial fat transfer is performed to restore the lost facial volume to offer a more youthful look. This procedure is often combined with other facial surgeries, such as rhinoplasty, to improve overall balance.

Who can get a facial fat transfer?

This procedure is for anyone who wants to enhance the appeal of certain facial features. It is usually performed on people whose head and skull have reached physical maturity, which generally occurs in late adolescence. Additionally, the person must have stable body weight, adequate fat to harvest, realistic expectations and commitment towards good skin health.

How does facial grafting with fat work?

During the first consultation, the surgeon will review your past medical records. A physical examination is done to check your skin condition and overall health.

Procedure:

Facial fat grafting procedure is carried out under local anesthesia. It is administered both on the donor area and the area that is been treated. The facial fat grafting procedure includes three steps.

  • Harvesting fat from donor site: The procedure begins with liposuction, which involves removal of fat from the donor site, i.e., buttocks, hips, the inner thighs or abdomen. Minimal incision is made on the site and the fat cells are collected by using a small-gauge hypodermic needle or a special cannula that is designed to limit the damage on the donor site.
  • Isolating fat cells: Once adequate amount of fat is collected, special treatments are done to harvest fat. The cells are placed in a centrifuge to separate the fat cells from the collected sample. The damaged cells are removed. Only whole, undamaged, and cleansed cells are used for transfer.
  • Injecting the treated fat into the patient’s face:  The transfer procedure is completed by injecting the fat cells into the target site(s) on the face. Using a hypodermic syringe, the surgeon will inject the cells into the lines, hollows, and depressions in the face to rejuvenate and to achieve the desired results.

It is an outpatient procedure and may require about an hour depending on the size of the areas to be treated. Patients should follow-up with the surgeon five to seven days after the procedure.
