Breast Lift Surgery in India

Breast lift surgery, also called mastopexy, is a procedure performed to raise the breasts by removing the excess skin and tightening the breast tissue to reshape and provide support to the new breast contour. This surgery is done to give a more youthful and uplifted appearance to the breasts and to boost one’s self-confidence and self-image.

Eligibility criteria for Breast lift

The shape, firmness, and skin elasticity of a woman's breasts changes with weight fluctuations, aging, gravity, pregnancy, and breastfeeding. Breast lift surgery is recommended for women who:

  • Are bothered by their sagging breasts.
  • Feel that their breasts have lost shape and volume.
  • Have flat, elongated breasts, or the breasts are pendulous.
  • Have nipples fall below the breast crease, without support.
  • Have nipples and areolas point downward.
  • Have stretched skin and enlarged areolas.
  • Have one breast that is lower than the other.
  • Are physically healthy.
  • Maintain a stable weight.
  • Do not smoke.

Breast lift surgery - The Procedure

Breast lift surgery can be performed by various techniques and incision patterns. The suitable technique for the patient is determined by the size and shape of the breast, the size and position of the areolas, the degree of breast sagging, skin elasticity, quality, and the amount of extra skin.

The procedure can be performed in an outpatient surgical facility or a hospital. Usually, general anesthesia is administered, but local anesthesia or sedatives can also be used.

The incision made depends on the approach of the procedure. There are three common incision patterns:

  • Around the areola
  • From the areola extending down to the breast crease
  • From the areola, extending down to the breast crease and horizontally along the breast crease

After the incisions are made, the underlying breast tissue is elevated and reshaped to enhance the breast firmness and contour. Then the nipple and areola are moved to be positioned at a natural and youthful height. If needed, the enlarged areolas are decreased by removing the skin at the perimeter. The excess breast skin is removed to make up for the lost elasticity. The remaining skin is then tightened, and the incisions are closed.
