The largest river of Bhutan, Dangme Chhu, flows through this district. The main town is situated on the hillside, and at one point of time, was a trading center for merchants looking to sell their goods in Tibet. A major attraction is the Sakteng Wildlife Sanctuary, one of the ten protected areas of Bhutan. It was created to protect the migoi, a type of Yeti.
