With a clear motive to bring motorsport back to its tourism calendar, the Uttarakhand Tourism Development Board is co-organising the Uttarakhand Adventure Car Rally for the second continuous year. The rally will be held from Feb 1 to Feb 4 and a number of adventure enthusiasts are expected to attend this event. After the floods of 2013, the footfall of tourists in Uttarakhand has been decreasing. This is hurting the economy of the state as tourism is its economic mainstay. Uma Kant Panwar, Uttarakhand tourism secretary, said “Mainly targeted at mid and high-end tourists, motorsport has made the state’s adventure portfolio even more attractive.
“Being organized following international standards, the rally will showcase to the international participants and audience the great, wide & clean roads in the state” Panwar quoted. He further said “The rally will zip by world-famous tourism hotspots like the well-known ski resort at Auli, and Ramnagar, which is next to the Jim Corbett National Wildlife Park.” Around 35 teams are participating in the rally, each of which constitutes a driver and a navigator. These teams, driving cars and sports utility vehicles, will cover about 1000 km in the state. All the teams will follow Time-Speed-Distance (TSD) Format so as to not disturb the traffic movements. Abiding by this format, the participants go slowly in densely populated areas and maintain a specific speed limit at all times. Panwar said that this high-profile rally will revive the tourism in state. “Uttarakhand has great holiday destinations for families, solo travelers and adventurers. The roads are in a fabulous condition, and we request all globetrotters to have a time of their life here.” Panwar stated. The rally is being organized by Himalayan Motorsport, which is a distinguished Shimla-based motorsport club. This club organizes the Raid De Himalaya, often addressed as one of the toughest rallies in the world. You may also be Interested in:
