Navegaon Nagzira Tiger Reserve
It is not at all hidden from wildlife enthusiasts that the tiger population in Navegaon-Nagzira Tiger Reserve has been on decline for so many years. But those enthusiasts would be glad to know that a pair of tigers has recently been sighted in the park.

Park officials are equally thrilled to know this; however, they have not shared the images of those tigers captured through camera traps. The reason everybody associated with the Navegaon-Nagzira Tiger Reserve is excited because it is after 13 years any tiger sighting is reported in the park. Last time when a tiger was seen in Navegaon was 2001.

Sanjay Thaware, NNTR field director & conservator of forests (CF) said “Camera traps captured a tigress and a tiger in Navegaon Wildlife Sanctuary and Navegaon National Park respectively. Both the areas are diagonally opposite.”

Confirming that these tigers are new in the area, Thaware said that we have compared the images of this pair with those exist in our existing database. He added the task now is to know from where the new tigers have come.

Navegaon National Park dots the Gondila District of Maharashtra and offers a number of leisure options from jungle safari to boating in the lake. One can easily sight leopards, bears, gaurs, sambars and chitals, beside different species of birds. The park is home to around 200 bird species, 9 reptile species and 26 mammal species. The national park is well-connected to major cities of India through rail and bus networks. The closest railway station is Deulgaon, which comes on Gondia-Chandrapur railway route and is just 2 kms from the park. One can walk to the park from this station or opt for locally available transport.

To make the stay of visitors comfortable, there are many lodgings available in and around the national park. Some known accommodation options are Log Hut Rest House, Holiday Homes Rest House, Sanjay Kuti Rest House and Youth Hostel.
