Sathyamangalam Tiger Reserve Welcomes New Members

A good news from Tamil Nadu’s Sathyamangalam Tiger Reserve (STR) in Erode will make all Tiger lovers jump with joy. After the Forest Department and the World Wildlife Fund (WWF) conducted a 60-day official count of Tigers between the months of August and October this year, there has been discovered the entry of new tigers in STR. About 21 male and 32 female tigers along with 2 unclassified tigers have been spotted at Sathyamangalam Tiger Reserve in Erode. STR chief conservator of forest and field director, I Anwardeen said that all the 55 tigers along with 11 cubs were identified with the help of CCTV cameras that were installed in 356 locations across the park.

Sathyamangalam Tiger Reserve is a well-known Tiger Reserve located on the border of the states of Tamil Nadu and Karnataka and it covers a total area of about 1,411 sq. km. Constant efforts have been made by the Forest Department which resulted in the fruitful increase in the rate of animals at STR. Besides, the growing population of Tigers, STR also succeeded in the rapid growth in the number of other animal species. Back in 2012, the elephant population in the reserve was 1,021 but it has increased to 1,900 in 2017. Similarly, other animals such as Indian Gaurs have also increased to 1,200 from 1000 and leopards from 58 to 111. Ultimately making a wildlife vacation here even more enjoyable.
