The Char Dham Yatra 2020 will be commencing with the opening of the portals of Gangotri, and Yamunotri on 26th April. The opening date of the yatra’s third and important temple Kedarnath has also been announced. Kedarnath Shrine in Uttarakhand’s Rudraprayag will open its doors for the pilgrims on Wednesday, 29th April 2020. The doors of the temple will open early in the morning to welcome thousands of pilgrims.
The year 2020 for Kedarnath yatra will be exceptional as it is after 6+ years, the Hindu temple will remain open for a period of more than 200 days for the pilgrims. The temple this year will open on April 29, 2020 and will close on November 16, 2020 after the Hindu festival of Bhaiya Dooj, keeping it open for the total period of 202 days. It is to be noted that last year Kedarnath was open for 185 days and received 10lac+ pilgrims, which was a record in itself. This year with the opening of Kedarnath for 17 extra days, it is expected the number of pilgrims will go as high up as 15lac.
As per the tradition, right from 4:00 am, the preparation of doors opening of the Kedarnath Temple is likely to start as per the Vedic tradition on April 29th. At 5:30 am the Doli (palanquin) is likely to enter inside and the required sanctum cleaning will be done by the priests and vedpathis. Later at 6:00 am, the devotees will be allowed to enter the temple to worship and bow their heads in front of Baba Kedarnath.
In order to make the pilgrimage experience convenient, Mohan Lal Thapliyal, Badrinath-Kedarnath Temple Committee President stated that all the necessary facilities will be made available in Kedarnath as well as at the various halts and other temples in the vicinity.
