Onset of Snowfall: Kashmir Tourism Spikes
Gulmarg received its fresh share of snow on the morning of Jan 3, bringing good news to the tourists who have been waiting to enjoy a session of skiing and sledging in the Valley. In fact, many higher ranges of Kashmir Valley also witnessed snowfall and some regions experienced light to moderate rainfall indicating that an exciting winter season is commencing for the tourists. As per the forecast, the snowfall is likely to continue for the next three days in Kashmir. The continuation of snowfall in Gulmarg is seen as an asset that will boost tourism during the winter season. It is also to be noted the Tourism Department has plans to organise a 16-day winter carnival at Gulmarg Resort in the last week of January 2017. Click here for complete travel guide to Kashmir.
The Winter Sports Carnival which is to be held between Jan 21 and Feb 5 will have activities and competitions like ice hockey, snowboarding, snowball fight, snow sledging and painting competitions. Besides, a night market and cultural shows will also be arranged by the Tourism Department for visitors to learn more about the rich culture and art of Kashmir. In addition, if the snow will accumulate up to a range of four to five feet by the January 21, then snow skiing will also be a part of the carnival.
