For nightcrawlers in Kerala, here is a good news, the thirst for drinks is finally over as CPM-led government announces the opening of bars in all hotels of Kerala ranging from three star and above. While the five-star category hotels are already serving alcohol in their bars, the hotels below three star are only allowed to open beer and wine parlours.
The government in Kerala has also raised the age limit for consuming liquor from 21 to 23 and has even allowed selling of liquor in both international and domestic airports. The opening time of the bar will remain from 11 am to 11 pm while an extra hour will be given to the tourism centers i.e. 10 am to 11 pm.
In the new policies laid by the government, measures will be taken to protect the traditional drink of Kerala, Toddy. The local brew will be allowed to be sold in bars as well as in five-star hotels. This reversing act was implemented due to the restriction of liquor in the state that led to an increased consumption of drugs. However, those outlets selling beer will still remain closed that are located within 500 meters of national and state highways.
