Recuperating from the grief of massive 2013 flood, this year’s Kedarnath Yatra has seen a remarkable increase in the number of pilgrims. More than 38699 visitors have visited Kedarnath between April 24 and May 19 this year which is notably higher than the number of last year’s visitors. Keeping in consideration the increasing number of pilgrims, the local inhabitants are co-operating the government in making the Yatra a success.
This year, the authority has planned to make 1500 pilgrims to visit Kedarnath from Sonprayag daily which is thrice the number of pilgrims planned to carry last year. However, the number of actual visitors reaching Kedarnath is somewhere between 2000-2500. The number is expected to increase even more in June and authority has to make more arrangements for lodging and food. Large number of tents and beds are also being provided by locals to meet the requirements of pilgrims.
Pilgrims are expecting more support from local inhabitants in case the number increases more.
