Kedarnath Temple Visited by Indian President
Indian President, Pranab Mukherjee is reported to have visited Kedarnath Temple on Wednesday, September 28, 2016. According to the report, President was accompanied by Governor K.K. Paul and Chief Minister Harish Rawat.
As per an official present in the temple premises, President Mukherjee spent some 20 minutes inside the sanctum sanctorum and offered prayers for the wellbeing of everyone. He also appeared quite happy after the ‘Darshan.’ He is said to have flown in an IAF chopper amidst tight security. The temple priest is reported to have presented him with a ‘Ram-naami’ cloth and a ‘rudraksh’ (bead) garland. The management of the temple also gifted the President a wooden replica of the temple.
It is to be noted, President Mukherjee also visited Kedarnath on June 22, 2016. However due to bad weather and poor visibility, he had to return without offering prayer at the temple. President was also reported to have interacted with the priests and local officials about the temple restoration work underway in and around the shrine.
Kedarnath Temple is one of the 12 Jyotirlingas situated in the state of Uttarakhand. The temple and the area around it suffered great loss of life and property during the 2013 flash flood.
