In what could go a long way in cementing its already envious position as one of the best tourist destinations in the world, Goa Tourism has now won a prestigious international award in the ‘Best Wedding and Honeymoon Destination’ section in Berlin.
The award which is sponsored by Pacific Area Travel Writers Association (PATWA) was handed out at a ceremony held at the International Tourism Bourse (ITB) in the city.
Goa Tourism officials received it from Secretary General of United Nations World Travel Organisation (UNWTO) Taleb Rifai, who gave away the award in the presence Sagar Ahluwalia, Secretary General of PATWA.
The State Tourism Minister Dilip Parulekar sounded happy at the win and stressed that the award will further solidify Goa’s claim as one of the most favorite destinations for high-end wedding celebrations and honeymoons among young couples cutting across geographical boundaries.
The award is the latest in a long list of accolades earned by the state, with National Geographic only recently ranking it the “Sixth Best Night Life Destination” in the World. This interesting bit of information was shared by Nilesh Cabral, Chairman of Goa Tourism Development Corporation (GTDC), which is a subsidiary of Goa Tourism.
The state of Goa is also slated to participate under the banner of India Tourism in ‘ITB Berlin 2015’, which is an ongoing event. A total of 18 other state departments are expected to participate in the event.
Other key highlights from the Berlin event include the Goa Stall which was tastefully designed and portrayed culture, cuisine, adventure tourism, eco-tourism and special events.
Goa is the not the only state taking part in the tourism show; some of the other Indian participants at the show include Kerala, Telangana, Karnataka, Andhra Pradesh, Madhya Pradesh, Rajasthan, and Tamil Nadu.
