The beach destination, Goa secures the top position as the most preferred tourist place in India in a Google report; based on searches conducted by Indians between February and April 2017. Some of the tourist destinations in India making to the top 10 are Shimla, Manali and Ooty.
The Google India Report also revealed that the popularity of Andaman and Nicobar Islands is also seeing 39.8% year-on-year growth. Also, Google found out that the US continues to be the most preferred international travel destination by Indians, followed by the UAE and Thailand. However, queries for countries like Nepal, Indonesia and Bhutan has also seen year-on-year growth of 64.8%, 42.1% and 40.8%, respectively.
A spike of 18% and 13% respectively were seen in the queries for ‘International Accommodation’ and ‘International Air’ in the Google India report. But what really caught the eye in the report was the fact that due to increasing affordable travel and stay options, a lot of people beyond the metro cities were seen interested in holiday travel. Google search estimated a 70% year-on-year increase in travel queries from non-metro cities over the past year with 40.8% of all the travel related queries made from cities and towns other than Delhi NCR, Mumbai, Bengaluru, Chennai, Pune, Hyderabad, Kolkata and Ahmedabad. Also a significant 96% year-on-year growth in travel queries with the use of mobile devices have also been noticed.
