The Union Minister of State (Independent Charge) for Development of North-East Region (DoNER), Dr. Jitendra Singh has announced direct flight between Delhi and Nagaland. According to report, Dr.Singh, while addressing the inaugural session of 64th Plenary Meeting of North-Eastern Council (NEC) declared that a new direct daily air flight shall ply between Delhi and Dimapur via Kolkata from 15th April onwards. The flight will also return through the same route.
It is to be noted that this decision was taken in addition to the direct daily flight from Kolkata to Silchar that resumed from 20th of the last month. Dr. Singh admitted to the fact that air connectivity has always remained a major issue in North East region. He further intimated that three hangers have been constructed in Guwahati with the support of NEC. These hangers are now functional under the supervision of Airport Authority of India at Guwahati Airport. Dr.Singh also stated that he hopes that Guwahati shall become the hub for flights in North East Regions.
The 64th Plenary Meeting was attended by Chief Ministers and Governors of North Eastern States, senior Officers from State Governments, union Ministries and other central Government Organizations. The discussions in the meeting were held on various developmental activities done in the North Eastern region by the different Ministries and Government organisations including the Road Transport and Highways, Ministries of Railways, Inland Waterways Authority of India, Civil Aviation and Tourism.
