Devotees Reach Badri-Kedarnath in Large Numbers
This year, the famous Chardham Yatra of Uttarakhand is seeing a huge increase in the number of devotees. More than 50,000 devotees have visited Kedarnath in last one month since the portals of Kedarnath temple have opened. Recovering from the awe of disaster in 2013, lots of domestic and international tourists are reaching Kedarnath and Badrinath for receiving the blessings. On May 24, 2015, more than 7000 devotees visited Kedarnath and Badrinath. This year, the number of visitors who visited Kedarnath in one month is three times the visitors came here last year in the same period.
However, the number was in lakhs in 2012 and 2013 before the disaster which fell down to 16,000 in 2014. Traders and temple committee are happy with the figures this year as large number of visitors ensures decent income for them. Huge increase in the number of tourists this year was not even expected by the government as less than 500 devotees reached Kedarnath per day last year.

Also, Shri Narayan Mahayagya is going to be organized in Shri Badrinath Dham from May 28, 2015. Shankracharya Swami Swaroopanand of Jyotish Peeth will inaugurate the Yagya on the occasion of Ganga Dashmi. The purpose of the Yagya is to minimize the threat of natural disasters in Himalayan area. Uttarakhand Chief Minister Harish Rawat is expected to join at the poornahuti (completion) of Yagya to be held at June 2.
