Auli sets Roster for Junior National Skiing Championship from Feb 11
With the onset of the snow, Uttarakhand Tourism is all set to host a three-day long National Junior Skiing Championship along with its winter carnival in Auli. A decision in this regard was taken during a meeting headed by Garhwal Commissioner, Vinod Sharma with officials from Garhwal Mandal Vikas Nigam (GMVN), and Public Works Department (PWD) on Friday. For the championship, more than 150 skiers in the junior and sub-junior categories, mostly from hill states mainly Jammu and Kashmir, Himachal Pradesh and some private clubs, will be invited. Along with the championship, cultural events will also be organized from February 11 to February 13.
Mentioned below is the eligibility criteria of the championship:
- Participants must not be older than 16 years.
- Participants should be a master in performing skiing disciplines like cross-country, slalom, giant slalom and super giant slalom (or super-G). All the techniques involve skiing between sets of poles (gates) spaced at varying distances.
Officials of the event said to the media that the execution of the event depends on the amount of snow available on the slopes of Auli at that time. Last year it postponed a couple of times due to lack of snow at the site. One can’t predict the weather pattern, but we’re making sure that the preparation is done well in advance.
