In a bid to promote adventure in Arunachal Pradesh, the state government would organize a three-day adventure tourism festival at Mechuka valley. Named Adventure@Mechuka, this festival will start from November 7 and the celebrations will last till November 9.
The festival is being organized by state tourism department in close association with the Union tourism ministry. The state tourism secretary, Joram Beda, told that this festival is now a calendar event, along with Siang River Festival, Tawang Festival, Pangsau Pass Winter Festival and Ziro Festival of Music. The state tourism secretary also said that the state has the potential to be a tourist hub spot, which will help it in sustainable development.
On November 7, Chief Minister Nabam Tuki will inaugurate the festival while the closing ceremony would be graced by Union Minister of State for Home Affairs, Kiren Rijiju. The event will also witness the presence of the director from the Union tourism ministry.
After the first edition of the festival held last year, Mechuka saw an increase of record 111 per cent in the number of foreign tourists. And the number of domestic tourists was 3,11,000.
Beda said that there will be plenty of accommodation facilities. The valley has two government lodges and two private hotels, in addition to several home stays with all the required facilities. While staying at this picturesque valley that is also known as ‘Land of Medicinal Ice Water’, tourists will have number of options to indulge in aero modelling, para/hang gliding, river rafting, trap shooting, rappelling, river crossing, mountain biking, micro-light aircraft, archery, horse riding and trekking. Further, tourists will also have a chance to know about local culture, relish ethnic cuisine and buy intricately carved handicrafts.
