Sandwiched between Nepal and Bhutan,
the ancient kingdom of Sikkim is one of the least-visited
of the Himalayan lands and remains charmingly
unspoiled. This very special 2-week Sikkimese adventure combines
a delightful 6-day walk with visits to a number of enthralling
towns and monasteries. After a day's sightseeing in Darjeeling,
our trek follows the crest of the Singalila Ridge,
a prominent spur of high ground which runs south from the towering
presence of Kangchenjunga (8586m.), the world's third highest
peak. Forming a natural border between Nepal and India, this ridge
is renowned as being one of the most scenically rewarding in the
entire Himalaya, with views of Kangchenjunga,
Makalu, Everest and Lhotse. Including a visit to the Sikkimese
capital of Gangtok, this extraordinary and very popular holiday
offers both a relaxing high mountain trek and a brilliant cultural
experience.
BRIEF ITINERARY
Day 1. Arrive Delhi late evening. Transfer to
the Hotel.
Day 2. Free day in Delhi.
Day 3-4. Fly to Bagdogra. Drive to Darjeeling
and check in at the Hotel. Free day in Darjeeling.
Days 5. Drive to Maneybhanjang and trek to Tonglu.
Day 6-10. Trekking on the Singalila Ridge. Our
high point is at Sandakphu (3640m). Drive to Pemayangste.
Day 11. Free day at Pemayangste - Norbugang Resort.
Day 12-13. Drive to Kalimpong - free day.
Day 14. Drive to Bagdogra and fly to Delhi
SIKKIM -
IN THE SHADOW OF KANGCHENJUNGA:-
23 days - (From
Darjeeling to the Goecha La - The highly spectacular Singalila
Ridge - Superb views of Kangchenjunga, Makalu and Everest - One
of the world's finest treks)
Arriving in the characterful hill
station of Darjeeling, the lofty summit of Kangchenjunga
(8586m.), the world's third highest peak, is clearly
visible to the north. Crossing the border into Sikkim, we trek
up to the crest of the Singalila Ridge and gain
excellent views of this dominating peak and the more distant summits
of Makalu and Everest. The ridge leads northwards and for the
next 8 days we traverse a beautiful tract of mountain wilderness
which has only recently been opened to adventure travellers. Our
route takes us via high passes and a succession of lovely camping
places to the valley of the Prek Chu. Finally, above sacred Samity
Lake, we make our ascent to the Goecha La (4800m.), a high pass
which is dramatically situated, directly opposite Kangchenjunga's
huge southeast face. This quite superb itinerary includes fabulous
mountain scenery, as well as the chance to enjoy some of the most
atmospheric old colonial hotels in this fascinating part of the
world.
BRIEF ITINERARY:
Day 1. Arrive
Delhi late evening. Transfer to the Hotel. (Land only clients
join at hotel).
Day 2. Sightseeing day in Delhi.
Day 3. Fly to Bagdogra. Drive to Darjeeling.
Days 4-11. Trekking along the Singalila Ridge.
En route, we will camp at Garibas, Sandakphu, Phalut, Chiwabhanjang,
Dhor, Megu and Gamothang.
Day 12. After 8 days of trekking it is time for
a rest. Exploration around Gamothang.
Days 13-17. Trek to Samity Lake (4260m).
Day 18. Early start for the day trek to Goecha
La (4800m). Return to Samity Lake to camp.
Days 19-20. Trek to Yoksum.
Day 21. Drive to Kalimpong.
Day 22. Fly to Delhi.
